Ride Description
The Sheetiron 300 Dualsport is the premier organized dualsport ride in Northern California. It always sells out, and riders from around the Bay Area and beyond eagerly look forward to it and plan their year around it. This year’s event is the 29th annual Sheetiron. It is organized by the Oakland Motorcycle Club, which was founded in 1907 and is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in the U.S.
This two-day ride begins in Stonyford on Saturday morning, ends up in Fort Bragg on Saturday night, and returns to Stonyford on Sunday afternoon, all on three hundred miles of trails, dirt roads, and pavement. It takes place each year on the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. This ride is non-competitive, and riders of all abilities are welcomed. Hard and easy splits are available.
Secure camping is available all weekend at the Stonyford Rodeo Grounds. Riders are responsible for making their own accommodations in Fort Bragg. The Oakland Motorcycle Club provides transportation of small gear bags and any necessary camping equipment to and from Fort Bragg.
Things to Know Before you Register
Entries will be accepted beginning 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2024.
Note that event will often sell out in only a few days. The Forest Service has mandated the rider limit at 500 riders, and we must abide by this limit. Once our rider limit is met, you may still register to place your name on a waiting list.
Your bike should be able to go about 80 miles between fuel stops and be in sound mechanical condition sufficient for three hundred miles of trails, dirt roads, and pavement.
Due to the strict Forest Service laws, EVERY BIKE must meet the 96dB noise regulation, must have a U.S. Forest Service-approved spark arrestor, and must be LEGALLY licensed and equipped for street use. NOTE: If you bring your non-street legal motocross bike with your wife’s license plate zip tied to your back fender, you will not be able to participate in our ride! (This is for the good of our sport, to ensure the continuation of this ride, to prevent your bike from being impounded, and to keep you from seeing the inside of the county pokey.)
Roll charts and a rider map will be provided to you at sign-in only after you pass the tech and sound inspection. You will need a Jart-style rollchart holder (available for purchase at the event for $35). Please do not try to do the ride without a rollchart holder; all of the route information and instructions will be on the roll chart. GPS tracks will also be available after you pass tech inspection, but the GPS tracks are intended to be used only to supplement the rollchart instructions.
Cancelations: To receive a full refund, please cancel via e-mail to brent@oaklandmc.org no later than Tuesday, May 7 (eleven days prior to the event). Include your phone number and rider number in the e-mail. People on the waiting list will appreciate an early notification. For late cancelations, if we are unable to find another rider to take your place, then no refund will be issued.
Transfers: To transfer your number to another rider, we must be notified via e-mail to brent@oaklandmc.org prior to the Tuesday before the event. Include your name, the name of the new rider, the rider number, and both phone numbers in the e-mail message.

Things to Know After you Register
Before the Ride: A list of Fort Bragg motels is attached. We recommend that you reserve rooms early. There are numerous events being held in the area on this weekend, and hotel reservations will be difficult if you delay. A campground is also available if you would like to save money and stay outdoors.
Your Motorcycle and Preparation: All motorcycles are required by law to be licensed and equipped for highway use. We will conduct a sound test and inspect for approved spark arrestors. If your motorcycle does not meet the 96-decibel sound limit, you will not be able to ride the Sheetiron 300 Dualsport. Your motorcycle should also be equipped with a gas tank capable of 80-mile trips, a resettable odometer, and an enduro-type route sheet holder (available for sale for $35 at sign in). The route sheet is printed on adding machine tape-format (approximately 2 inches wide by about 8-20 feet long). We recommend that you prepare for temperatures from the low 40s to possibly into the 100s. Elevations will vary from sea level to 6,500 feet. Bring spare spark plugs, tools, drinking water, a towrope, and any other items you deem necessary for a 300-mile trail ride. Please be prepared to repair flat tires.
Sign In: The ride will start and finish at the Stonyford Rodeo Grounds, located about 0.2 miles southwest of downtown Stonyford on East Park Road. Free overnight camping and secure parking for the entire weekend are available at the start/finish location. A food truck will be available at the Stonyford Rodeo Grounds on the afternoon/evening of Friday, May 17 for dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The food truck will also be available for coffee/breakfast on the morning of Saturday, May 18 from 5:45 am to 8:45 am.
Sign in on Friday evening is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 5:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. All riders will be required to sign a liability release waiver. Please read this waiver prior to your arrival at the event.
At sign in, you will receive riding instructions, a course map, a label for your number plate, and a luggage tag.
Tech inspection on Friday evening is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 5:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. After tech inspection (and sign in), you will receive route sheets. GPS tracks will then also be available.
All riders must check in their gear at the start by 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning in order to have it hauled to Fort Bragg. You must haul your gear from the Saturday night finish location at the Noyo Harbor parking lot on South Harbor Drive off Highway 20 near Highway 1.
The Ride: For your safety, please do not attempt this ride alone. Try to team you up with someone of similar ability.
The Saturday course goes from Stonyford through Upper Lake to Lake Pillsbury for lunch and gas. (Please bring CASH for lunch, because the Soda Creek Store card reader is very slow, and we have 500 hungry people to feed.) The course continues to Potter Valley, Ukiah, and Willits, and finishes in Fort Bragg. Please start as early as possible, to account for any difficulties on the route, and to finish at a reasonable time. You should time your departure and your breaks so you arrive in Fort Bragg before 6:00 p.m., especially to have your complementary photo taken.
The return route on Sunday leaves Fort Bragg and goes through Navarro, Ukiah, Cow Mountain, and Nice (lunch stop at Boathouse BBQ) to the Stonyford finish. The total ride is approximately 300 miles. Again, please start as early as possible, to account for any difficulties on the route, and to finish at a reasonable time.
You must drop off your gear no later than 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning for the return trip. As noted on your route sheet, the gear drop location is the Noyo Harbor parking lot on South Harbor Drive off Highway 20 near Highway 1.

Don't be a squirrel: Please travel safely and slowly through residential areas and near private farms, ranches, cabins, and homes. Be considerate, represent our sport responsibly, and help us save this ride for future years.
